A Burger and Beer night at Vernon鈥檚 Kal Sports Bar will be held March 10 to raise funds for Garnet 鈥渢he Great.鈥�
Garnet has been battling leukemia for 19 years and has been struggling with his health ever since. In May 2019, the Vernon man was diagnosed with Squamous cell carcinoma 鈥� the second most common form of skin cancer, which began rapidly growing on his face and neck.
鈥淢y dad鈥檚 been the rock of our family forever,鈥� Garnet Tetz鈥檚 daughter Tegan said. 鈥淗e鈥檚 always been the person we go to for help.鈥�
Garnet underwent an invasive surgery last year 鈥� which rendered him deaf in one ear 鈥� doctors hoped to remove the cancerous cells from his skin, but tests came back showing the cancer was still present.
鈥淲e thought they had got it all,鈥� Tegan said. 鈥淲e were so happy and we thought it was just time to heal, but when the tests came back, it was the first time in my life I鈥檝e ever seen him scared.鈥�
鈥淭hrough all the illnesses and surgeries, he鈥檚 been an absolute warrior,鈥� she said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 hard. It鈥檚 like watching the king of the castle fall and not ask for any help or complain鈥� but you can tell, for the first time, he鈥檚 feeling defeated.鈥�
But a holistic medical program in Mexico may be the answer, Tetz said. And a GoFundMe campaign has been started to help raise the money to send him to the integrative and intensive three-week cancer program at the state-of-the-art facility.

鈥淲hat they try to do is identify the root cause of the disease while they provide healing support to the body,鈥� she said.

鈥淎bsolutely Sanoviv could be the answer,鈥� Tetz said, who had visited the facility herself for her own medical needs.
鈥淚 absolutely believe it will 100 per cent help.鈥�
鈥淲e just want to help him so bad because he鈥檚 always been there for us,鈥� she said. 鈥淗e still continues to bend over backwards for us. He always does everything he can to make sure we鈥檙e happy.鈥�

With a ticket, patrons will get a burger, one beer and side of fries between 5:30 and close on March 10. Tetz said the burger can be swapped out for a vegetarian option.
