The second annual road hockey tournament returns to headline Canada Day celebrations in Salmon Arm.

Salmon Arm has plans to celebrate Canada Day, not the 51st State Day, in patriotic style with a nod to our national sport.

The second annual ball hockey tournament returns to Rogers Rink as the headline event on July 1, though other attractions are also planned to round out the day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Pre-registration for the tournament is required through salmonarmrecreation.ca, with a $100 team entry fee. Categories are based on the grade kids will be going into in September, starting from kindergarten to Grade 1, up to Grade 10-12, as well as an adult division.

Off the rink, there will be a number of free activities to fill the day, including bouncy castles, laser tag, face painting, games and birthday cake to celebrate 158 years of Canada. The Turtle Valley Band will provide the soundtrack with live music, and the arena concession, The Lemonade Stand and S'Witch Craft food trucks will keep people fuelled up.

A Farmers Market will also take place that afternoon, as well as a Show and Shine at 1 p.m., with Salmon Arm Skydiving, the Salmon Arm Fire Department, BC Paramedics and the RCMP K-9 Unit also attending to provide information and talk about what they do on the job.
