Bob Davison of Vernon鈥檚 beloved orchard was pulled over by police last week, but for the life of him, he couldn鈥檛 figure out what he鈥檇 done wrong.

Davison, 87, said he was leaving a doctor鈥檚 appointment when the red-and-blue lights started flashing behind him.

鈥淎n RCMP lady pulled me over and asked for my driver鈥檚 licence,鈥 he said. 鈥淵ou know what鈥檚 going through your head, 鈥榳hat have I done?鈥欌

Turns out, he had a flat tire.

鈥淚 didn鈥檛 know it. The car rode good, I didn鈥檛 realize it was flat,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 must have driven a few miles on it.鈥

A second Vernon North Okanagan RCMP officer appeared, seemingly out of nowhere, Davison said, and asked him if he had BCAA.

鈥淚 said no. I did have it at one time for years but I dropped it because I never needed it.鈥

The officers surprised him when they offered to change his tire.

鈥淭hese new fandangled cars have too many gadgets with these locking lug nuts,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 was very grateful, I don鈥檛 know what I would have done.鈥

Davison said too often people hear the negative side of policing.

鈥淵ou hear a lot about defunding and all the mistakes that are made but they are human too and they certainly did me a good turn,鈥 he said.

He reciprocated and offered his thanks by bringing the officers a box of delicious Davison Orchard apples.

鈥淭his shows police are more than law-keepers, they are servants,鈥 Davison said.

RCMP media officer Const. Chris Terleski said he was told of the incident last week and it was great to hear.

鈥淪ometimes it鈥檚 the smallest things we can do for people that make the biggest difference,鈥 Terleski said.
