A Vernon resident said he spotted a wolf from his window on Tuesday afternoon.
Ron Gray photographed what appeared to be a lone wolf stalking a herd of deer near Adventure Bay. Gray wasn鈥檛 alone in noticing the predator; he said the deer were also 鈥渨atching intently.鈥
Wolves are a relatively rare sight, conservation officer Tanner Beck said. They aren鈥檛 fans of human company.
And that鈥檚 the case here, as well. The photographs submitted were that of a common coyote.
鈥淲olves are pretty seclusive animals, they don鈥檛 really like being anywhere near humans,鈥 Beck said.
Beck said there鈥檚 no need to worry about if a wolf is spotted, as long as it鈥檚 in its natural habitat. Although, issues can arise when other dogs are involved.
鈥淭he only time that I鈥檓 aware of (wolves) getting in conflict with people is around dogs. They see dogs either as a rival or a prey species,鈥 Beck explained.
鈥淚f people are walking their dogs in areas where wolves may be, it鈥檚 important they keep their dogs on a leash so they can prevent any unwanted encounters.鈥
