Vernon band a finalist for international music award

Cat Wells Blues Band a finalist for ICMA

A local blues band is in the running to pick up an InterContinental Music Award (ICMA) this weekend.

The Cat Wells Blues Band was named a finalist in the 2025 awards, an international competition that recognizes outstanding musical talent from across the globe.

Based in Los Angeles, Calif., the awards celebrate musicians from any continent and all genres, promoting peace, unity, and cultural diversity while providing professional recognition and growth opportunities.

Wells herself is a Vernon-based singer/songwriter/musician who has been practising her craft for more than 30 years.

After mild success with her first two releases, Live at the Blue Gator and Bootleg Blues, the recent release of the band's new CD Brand New Shoes has garnered international airplay and placed two songs at No. 1 on the Canadian Blues Charts (Roots Music Report).

鈥淚 was shocked to open up my e-mail (recently) and find that we had become finalists in the InterContinental Music Award," said Wells, who received the news July 1. "To receive this news on Canada Day was extra special.鈥

Finalists will be celebrated during the official 2025 ICMA Online Awards Ceremony on Sunday, Aug. 24, where winners will be announced.
