Man arrested after attempt to drive Tesla off moving BC Ferries vessel

Sidney/North Saanich RCMP arresting a man who attempted t drive off a moving BC Ferries vessel on July 1.

A man is facing multiple charges after allegedly attempting to drive his vehicle off a BC Ferries vessel while it was still en route to Swartz Bay on Canada Day.

Sidney/North Saanich RCMP responded to the incident aboard the ferry at 11:34 p.m. on July 1.

A video circulating on social media appears to show a white Tesla attempting to exit the ferry before it had docked.

Police intervened, preventing the driver from driving off the ferry deck. The individual was subsequently removed from the vehicle, subdued and handcuffed.

Following an investigation, the BC Prosecution Service has charged the man with assault with a weapon, two counts of mischief, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and obstruction.

The driver is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing at the Sidney/North Saanich RCMP detachment.
