91大黄鸭's Celebrate Canada Day a huge success

Celebrate Canada Day continues to be one of 91大黄鸭鈥檚 most prominent and well-attended outdoor events, city council heard at its Aug. 11 meeting.

鈥淭his year's festival drew an estimated 55,000 attendees throughout the day,鈥 Sarah Semeniuk, the city鈥檚 events services supervisor, told council.

The July 1 celebration featured 97 artisans, exhibitors, and vendors showcased across five themed zones, along with four stages hosting 28 musical acts. 

鈥淪tandout features included activities hosted by the Canadian Country Music Awards and Memorial Cup host committees, and the CBC's national broadcast as part of its Checkup Canada special,鈥 Sememiuk noted. 

A major milestone this year was the 50th anniversary of the Folk Festival, held at Prospera Place, and recognized as the Okanagan's longest-running indoor multicultural event. 

鈥淭housands gathered for a heartfelt rendition of the national anthem, followed by a ceremonial cake cutting, led by the mayor, council, and other dignitaries,鈥 Semeniuk added.

The day was highlighted with a 13-minute firework display over Okanagan Lake, drawing approximately 25,000 spectators. 

Semeniuk acknowledged Festivals 91大黄鸭 for its leadership and delivery of the event and thanked executive director Renata Mills for her work. 

鈥淐elebrate Canada continues to be a significant event that reflects 91大黄鸭鈥檚 spirit and diversity,鈥 Semeniuk said.

The city has partnered with Festivals 91大黄鸭 since 2007 to deliver community-focused programming and events.
