91大黄鸭鈥檚 mayor says a new Community Task Force on Economic Prosperity will aim to strengthen the city鈥檚 business, employment and tourism sectors.
鈥淓conomic development is one of council鈥檚 priorities,鈥 Tom Days said at council鈥檚 June 9 meeting. 鈥淎 strong and resilient local economy supports quality of life and generates opportunity.鈥
The mayor will lead the task force, which will include a legal expert, economic and real estate specialists, a tech sector representative, a financial sector representative, a retail or restaurant industry member, a partnership development expert, councillor Luke Stack, and a member of the public.
Over the next 10 months, it will look at current city policies and programs, talk to local businesses and community groups, find gaps in 91大黄鸭鈥檚 economy that could be filled, and suggest ways to attract new investment and partnerships.
鈥淲e have seen some success in this model, this term,鈥 Dyas added, pointing to the Mayor鈥檚 Task Force on Crime Reduction, and the Community Task Force of Performing Arts.
鈥淭he Task Force on Economic Prosperity will follow that same approach because we know that a strong local economy does not happen by accident,鈥 the mayor said.
The task force will meet regularly and report back to council twice鈥攐nce at the halfway point and again at the end of the 10-month term. If needed, the term could be extended.
