A major upgrade is coming for the intersection of Old Okanagan Highway and Butt Road in West 91大黄鸭.

Construction at one of West 91大黄鸭鈥檚 busiest intersections is about to begin, and it鈥檚 going to mean a full closure for approximately four to five months.

Starting Wednesday, June 18, the intersection at Butt Road and Old Okanagan Highway will close to all traffic as part of a major active transportation and infrastructure improvement project. The closure will remain in place 24 hours a day, seven days a week, through to the fall.

All businesses in the area will stay open and accessible via detours. Drivers are being asked to avoid the area and instead use Elliott Road via Reece and Bering roads, or detour through Bering Rd to Louie Drive and back onto Old Okanagan Highway.

Transit will also be affected. Bus routes will be temporarily redirected, with some stops relocated. Riders are advised to check BC Transit鈥檚 website for current route and schedule information. Pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to move through the area.

The closure is necessary to complete underground utility upgrades safely. Once complete, the project will add new left-turn lanes in all directions, a right-turn lane on Butt Road heading west, and upgraded traffic signals.

The improvements also include 350 metres of new concrete sidewalk, replacing an existing asphalt path, along with 640 metres of dedicated bike lanes.

Crews will also replace 174 metres of aging watermain and improve drainage at the southwest corner of the intersection, where Westbank Creek has caused flooding and damaged infrastructure in the past.
