Supporters thanked as Vernon golf tournament raises $21K for Camp Winfield

Funds will help more kids and adults with disabilities get the Camp Winfield experience

The numbers are in, and the Vernon Lions Club's charity golf tournament turned out to be a drive down the middle.

The club's seventh annual Charity Golf Tournament and Auction Fundraiser raised $21,475 for the Easter Seals' Camp Winfield at the Vernon Golf and Country Club late last month.

Camp Winfield is a safe and accessible facility where campers can have fun and be around others that face many of the same challenges in their everyday life.

The tournament was a fun and relaxed 18-hole scramble that will aid Camp Winfield with facility maintenance and improvements while subsidizing camper-ships for children with special needs.

It costs about $3,600 to send one individual to camp, and the funds will help give deserving children and adults with disabilities the camp experience.

"Thank you to all of our Vernon Lions Club volunteers, golfers sponsors, donors, various Lions club members and guests!" said Vernon Lion Michele Materi-Baker. "Special thanks to Chad McCaw and McCaws Drilling and Blasting, Valene Reckhard and Eric Reckhard for your wisdom and creativity over the past couple of years. We could not have done this without you."

The Lions Club also gave thanks to Brian Perry Quint for his help behind the scenes with its website, and to Brooks and Natasha from Vernon Golf and Country Club for hosting and supporting the event.

Anyone who would like to support the Camp Winfield cause can contact Materi-Baker at mmateri@eastersealsbcy.ca
