The West 91大黄鸭 RCMP Indigenous Police Service, led by Cst. Rolly Williams, will hold a youth canoe journey from Summerland to West 91大黄鸭 starting Monday, Aug. 25, 2025.

A days long trek on Okanagan waters will get underway next week, with the aim of building better relationships between police and Indigenous youth and communities.

The West 91大黄鸭 RCMP Indigenous Police Service, led by Cst. Rolly Williams, will hold a youth canoe journey from Summerland to West 91大黄鸭, beginning Monday, Aug. 25.

The five-day journey will cover 56 kilometres stretching from Powell Beach in Summerland to the Tolko site on Bear Creek Road in West 91大黄鸭. More than 30 youth will be taking part, with RCMP members and chaperones from several communities assisting.

Three canoes will be used for the annual journey and the youth will learn valuable lessons and history along the way.

"The goal of the journey is to help build a better relationship with the RCMP and Indigenous communities while educating Indigenous youth on the importance of water safety. This is also another opportunity for the youth to learn about potential careers in the RCMP during their journey," said Cst. Williams.

Each day of the journey, all participants will receive an opening prayer and the traditional smudge will take place.
