Alleged fraudster starts the year in cuffs

The alleged suspect was successful in purchasing $150 in prepaid credit cards, life savers, a creamsicle and a yogurt drink.

Alleged fraudster arrested

RCMP arrested a man this week in Glenmore following a multi-week fraud investigation.

Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey says the investigation began on Nov. 22, 2016 when 91大黄鸭 RCMP received report of theft on Flemish Street.

RCMP say a man allegedly stole items from inside a GMC pickup truck which had been parked overnight on the 1400 block of Flemish Street.

鈥淭he victim of the theft quickly learned that the 'tap' feature of his stolen credit card had been used twice before additional attempted transactions were declined by his financial institution,鈥 says O'Donaghey.

鈥淭he police investigation revealed that the alleged suspect was successful in purchasing $150 in prepaid credit cards, among other items like life savers, a creamsicle and a yogurt drink.鈥

Video surveillance footage obtained by RCMP aided police in identifying their suspect 鈥 39-year-old Patrick Casey of 91大黄鸭.

On Jan. 1, 2017 O'Donaghey says officers received reliable information of their suspect鈥檚 current whereabouts and coordinated the arrest of Casey at a home in the Glenmore area.

鈥淐asey has been charged with two counts of fraud under $5,000, two counts of fraudulent use of a credit card and one count of possession of property obtained by crime.鈥

Casey has been remanded into custody and is expected to reappear in court on Jan. 9.
