Beavers have been busy in Lake Country.
At Beasley Park last week, photos were taken of a tree one of the rodents had gnawed. At the Turtle Bay Marina, another tree is more than halfway chewed.
鈥淚t鈥檚 right at the bottom of the Turtle Bay Marina parking lot,鈥 said resident Brenda Cotton.
鈥淚f that tree falls, it will probably fall on the parking lot.鈥
Beavers are nothing new to the community.
Cotton said beavers have chewed her trees in the past, but she uses stucco wire on her trees which prevents them from getting to the bark.
Chicken wire doesn鈥檛 work, as the beavers will pull the wire down, she said.

鈥淭he one at Turtle Bay is a big tree and I think it鈥檚 in peril. I wouldn鈥檛 park at Turtle Bay without being worried about that.鈥
She said beavers are common in the area, and there was a beaver dam under one of the marine docks.
Karen Miller, District of Lake Country communications officer, said parks services is monitoring the tree in Beasley Park.
鈥淭hey usually get someone to evaluate it鈥 and they watch it.鈥
In the past, trees have been damaged by people and critters, she said.
鈥淚t鈥檚 not to be intrusive, but in the interest of public safety they鈥檒l keep an eye on it.鈥
With the tree near Turtle Bay Marina parking lot, operator Stu Smith said he has dealt with beavers and other critters in the past, but not for a number of years.
Smith said someone had told him about the tree near the parking lot.
鈥淚 haven鈥檛 gone and looked at it,鈥 he said, as he鈥檚 been busy and he hasn鈥檛 had time.
鈥淏ecause we鈥檙e a commercial marina, we can phone the wildlife department to come and trap them,鈥 he said.
Lately, he鈥檚 been letting the beavers do their thing.
鈥淚 guess we鈥檒l have to help him out with a chainsaw.鈥
