Black Friday shoppers were out in force this morning in 91大黄鸭, snapping up bargains on what has become one of the busiest shopping days of the year.
At Orchard Park Shopping Centre, bargain hunters snapped up deals on big-ticket items like big-screen televisions and other electronics at sharply reduced prices.
鈥淚t was good, there were some good sales,鈥 said Lisa Adlem, who left with two InstaPots鈥攁 cooking accessory item expected to be a big seller this year鈥攁nd a number of other items she said will be Christmas presents for her family.
But her big purchase has yet to arrive. She bought a 65-inch television set but it was not in stock so she will get it next week.
Adlem鈥檚 Black Friday shopping experience was her first and she said she was surprised the crowds weren鈥檛 bigger.
鈥淏ut, I guess the stores have been open since six o鈥檆lock this morning,鈥 she said. 鈥淪o maybe they were busier then.鈥
Adlem said she tried to go on-line Thursday night to make her purchases but the site of the electronics store she was shopping at appeared to be down.
鈥淪o I decided to come here this morning.鈥
Many stores started their Black Friday sales late Thursday night and plan to keep them going through the weekend, culminating on what has become known as Cyber Monday, a day when online shopping is encouraged by retailers.
The annual Black Friday sale started in the U.S. on the day following the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday and has spread to Canada and a number of other countries. It has grown in popularity in recent years and is now considered not only one of the busiest shopping days of the year, but also the unofficial start to the Christmas shopping season.
