Greater Vernon residents can learn more about proposals for a historic site.

The BX Ranch Land Task Force will hold a presentation at the Schubert Centre Tuesday, Nov. 21 from 7 to 9 p.m. to discuss the future of the remaining BX Ranch land.

鈥淭his is possibly the last chance to save a large property on the city鈥檚 border for future green space and park,鈥 said Paul Williamson, task force chairperson.

The of the BX Ranch on East Vernon Road in 2016 and is currently rezoning 137 acres so it can be sold for residential development. If sold, the remaining 36 acres would create a park between BX Ranch and Mutrie Road parks.

When RDNO purchased the 166 acres for $2.3 million, a condition from partners Vernon and Coldstream was that a portion be sold off as a way of generating revenue.

The task force is in favour of keeping all of the property in public hands.

鈥淎 potential use of the land could be to develop a community agricultural park or perhaps a venue for education and research,鈥 said Williamson. 鈥淲e want to keep the focus on agricultural but within that broad definition there are many exciting possibilities. This presentation is an opportunity for residents to ask questions, get more information, make suggestions and share their vision for this unique property.鈥
