A Vernon group that dedicates its time to helping the vulnerable will be collecting clothing for those in need this weekend.
HOPE Outreach Vernon is holding a spring clothing drive Saturday, May 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in The People Place parking lot at 3402 27th Ave.
The goal is to collect clean, gently used clothing and footwear for men and women in need during the warmer months.
With spring in full bloom and summer on the horizon, many vulnerable people face challenges finding appropriate seasonal clothing. With its clothing drive, HOPE Vernon is calling on the community to donate essential items, such as T-shirts and tank tops, lightweight pants and shorts, sneakers and sandals, hats, light jackets, bras and underwear.
Other items that are welcome for donation include hair brushes, deodorant, toothpaste, disposable spoons and bowls, and sandwich and freezer-sized plastic bags.
鈥淲e're getting ready to support our vulnerable community through the warmer months, and every donation truly makes a difference,鈥 said a volunteer from HOPE Outreach. 鈥淚tems donated will go directly to helping men and women in need right here in Vernon.鈥
All donated items should be clean and in good condition. HOPE emphasizes that even a single piece of clothing can offer comfort, dignity and relief to someone in need.
The Morning Star about the organization's commitment to continuing to provide support on the streets, despite the loss of its board of directors in 91大黄鸭 last June. At the time, a HOPE volunteer said they were having trouble cashing a $2,000 donation from Interior Health because they were no longer considered a non-profit.
This week, HOPE reported a positive development, saying they've successfully set up a bank account that allows them to access funds more efficiently, including the "generous" donation from the health authority and contributions from compassionate community members.
"The spirit of community support continues to grow, with several individuals reaching out, and two new volunteers recently joining the team," HOPE said.
