Two Shuswap-area drivers learned the hard way that if you snooze, you lose.
Just before 5 p.m. on May 6, Chase RCMP responded to a collision on Highway 1 near Sorrento. After speaking with witnesses on-scene, officers determined that an eastbound SUV had gradually drifted across the centre line before side-swiping an oncoming semi-truck and trailer.
Both drivers remained on site and cooperated with police, while the SUV driver admitted to "likely nodding off behind the wheel."
"Fortunately no injuries were reported," Const. Sarah Van Wilgenburg said in a media release, adding the SUV was towed from the scene.
On May 14, the RCMP responded to another afternoon call at 3:30 p.m. after a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 1 near Pritchard.
Officers spoke with the vehicle's lone occupant, a 50-year-old man from Kamloops who too "admitted to falling asleep at the wheel," causing his blue Chevy Silverado to veer into the ditch where it rolled over. Both westbound lanes were temporarily closed while a tow truck cleared the scene.
