Doing doughnuts in a parking lot might seem fun, until you crash.
A 17-year-old learned that lesson Sunday, Aug. 17 around 2:30 a.m. in Lumby.
Witnesses say the teen was stunting a sedan in the Charles Bloom Secondary parking lot before crashing into the school.
"The investigation determined alcohol was a contributing factor and police demanded a breath sample from the driver," said Cpl. Tania Finn, Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media relations officer. "After failing a road side screening device, the driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30-days."
In addition, the driver was charged under the BC Motor Vehicle Act with no insurance, driving without due care and attention, as well as driving contrary to restrictions.
No injuries were reported.
Despite the damage, school remains on track to start Tuesday, Sept. 2.
Vernon School District superintendent Karla Mitchell says the damage to the exterior wall was assessed by the operations services department and repairs are underway.
"The level of damage is not extensive, and I am confident repairs will be complete before school begins," Mitchell said.
