Road work is continuing in Summerland, affecting traffic in the community.
At present, crews are continuing to work on the Wharton Street Revitalization Project, affecting traffic in downtown Summerland.
Some of the work is affecting the intersection of Main Street and Victoria Road is blocking the central downtown intersection in Summerland.
The project, with a cost of $8.557 million, includes water, sewer, stormwater and electrical system work, as well as improvements to the roadway itself.
Work is expected to be completed by Remembrance Day in Summerland, although some electrical work could be finished in 2026, the municipality says.
This is not the only project affecting roads and traffic in Summerland.
Municipal crews are also working on a portion of Prairie Valley Road between Morrow Avenue and Darke Road.
This project, with a cost of $3.6 million, includes building a multi-use pathway and replacing a water main from 1939. A developer is also paying for a sewer main to be installed.
Work on this project is expected to be completed in August.
Crews have also done repaving on Blair Street and a portion of Canyon View Road. Repaving is also planned for a portion of Fyffe Road this year.
Summerland has 175 kilometres of roads and 200 kilometres of water mains. Road improvement project have been prioritized using Summerland鈥檚 Integrated Road and Water Master Plan. This plan received the 2023 Union of B.C. Municipalities Community Excellence Award.
