If you see a lot of bright-pink, knitted caps with little ears poking up from either side this weekend, 颈迟鈥檚 not just the birth of a fashion trend. 滨迟鈥檚 the telltale sign of a social movement.

Across North America people have been knitting-and-purling up Pussyhats for the thousands set to gather in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 21 to march in support of human rights 鈥� and 91大黄鸭 is no different.

Melissa 叠谤辞飞苍鈥檚 family owns The Art of Yarn on Pandosy Street and 迟丑别测鈥檝别 had a run on their pink wool.

鈥淓惫别谤测辞苍别 has been talking about the 辫耻蝉蝉测丑补迟蝉,鈥� she said. 鈥淭丑别谤别 are a ton of ladies knitting them and sending them to people in 奥补蝉丑颈苍驳迟辞苍.鈥�

It turns out that the yarn-shop is actually a hub of activism.

Chris Campbell teaches knitting at the shop and she was in the middle of making a pussyhat Tuesday afternoon. She intends to make a few more before the 91大黄鸭 rally on Saturday so her family can be appropriately attired for the event and 蝉丑别鈥檚 not alone.

鈥淭丑别谤别 was a lady walking through the store and 蝉丑别鈥檚 already knit seven and she and her friend bought yarn for three 尘辞谤别,鈥� said Campbell.

鈥淭丑别测 are flying to Washington Wednesday to take part in the rally. It will cost a lot of money, but she said it will be worth 颈迟.鈥�

Campbell 颈蝉苍鈥檛 just happy to see people knitting, 蝉丑别鈥檚 happy to see them take part in the political process.

鈥淲别 take so much of social democracy for 驳谤补苍迟别诲,鈥� she said.

鈥淲别 need to safeguard democracy in our social institutions. We get too complacent and that 诲辞别蝉苍鈥檛 飞辞谤办.鈥�

Whether the pussyhat movement will turn that complacency around remains to be seen, but for some 颈迟鈥檚 definitely a bright point in a period of darkness.

The hats are the creation of Krista Suh and Jayna Zweiman 鈥� friends who wanted a way for women to announce their opposition to Donald 罢谤耻尘辫鈥檚 election.

鈥淭辞诲补测 we want to write a bit about what 鈥楽辫谤别补诲颈苍驳 the 奥辞谤诲鈥� can look like because all of us, whether we are knitters/crocheters/sewers, marchers, both or neither, can contribute immensely to making this 丑补辫辫别苍,鈥� organizers wrote on their Pussyhat Project blog.

鈥淎苍测迟颈尘别 you think, 鈥楾丑别 organizers of the Pussyhat Project should 谤别补濒濒测鈥�.鈥� you are probably 谤颈驳丑迟!鈥�

The response has been tremendous and thousands of women have shared photos of their own pussyhats across social media using the hashtag #pussyhatproject.
