UPDATE: Vernon firefighters extinguish burning pile amid ban

Fire Rescue personnel dispatched to a spot north of the old Kin Race Track site Monday, July 14

Firefighters extinguished a debris fire that spread slightly at Vernon's north end Monday, July 14.

A crew from Vernon Fire Rescue Services was quick to put out the burning pile of pallets and other rubbage in a large field around 5 p.m.

The field is located off Old Kamloops Road, just past the site of the former Kin Race Track.

Fire Chief David Lind said crews spoke with the homeowner who stated he did not start the fire and was unsure how it would have started.

The cause of ignition is unknown.

There is currently a burning ban in place that prevents debris fires. Campfires are permitted.
