Smoke drifts over B.C. border from U.S. wildfire

The Regional District Kootenay Boundary reported that there is no threat to RDKB residents

There is no doubt that smoke from a wildfire is moving over Greater Trail and the Columbia Basin Tuesday afternoon. 

The Regional District Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) reported on Facebook that the source of the smoke is a wildfire burning 12 km south of the U.S.-Canada border in Washington State.

"There is no threat to RDKB residents," the report says. "BC Wildfire is aware of the situation and the RDKB's Emergency Management team is monitoring the situation."

The RDKB also recommended that residents should register for the emergency alert system, to plan for an emergency by visiting . 

Effective at noon on Friday, July 11, Category 2 open fires will be prohibited in Southeast Fire Centre.
