Emergency crews responded to reports of a vehicle fire near Trepanier Bench Road last night.
At around 7:50 p.m. Peachland fire crews responded to the blaze, according to fire chief Dennis Craig.
People were also be stopped from going up the road to a gravel pit in the area.
Vancouver resident Pat Maase spotted what he thought was the start of a potentially troubling fire, driving down the Coquihalla Connector Friday night.
Maase said there was thick grey smoke billowing out of a canyon near Trepanier Road around 8:30 p.m.
鈥淚t was down a big canyon and there was a lot of smoke coming out of there,鈥� said Maase. 鈥淚 couldn鈥檛 quite see what was burning but it was in a largely forested area.鈥�
Maase reported the fire to the BC Wildfire Service, using the *5555 service on his cell phone.
鈥淪he asked if it could be a campfire or a house fire,鈥� he said. 鈥淚 couldn鈥檛 see. It could have been a house or a vehicle. It was that much smoke. Much bigger than a campfire.鈥�
