BC Lions kicker Sean Whyte earns honour roll accolades

In July, veteran kicker was a perfect 11-for-11 on field goals

Veteran BC Lions kicker Sean Whyte has made the honour roll for July.

Announced by the Canadian Football League Wednesday (July 30), the Pro Football Focus monthly honour roll gave both Whyte — who was born and raised in White Rock and Surrey — as well as his teammate, running back James Butler, the monthly award.

Whyte went a perfect 11-for-11 on field goals in July, a BC Lions release noted, including a walk-off winner in Montreal on July 5. Overall, this season, he has made all 17 field goal attempts and is 14/15 on converts.

Butler, with four games played in July, has rushed for 367 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 66 carries, and rushed for a career-high 171 yards in the July 13 win in Edmonton. In the same game, Butler totalled 206 yards from scrimmage. He now enters week nine as the CFL’s leader with 615 rushing yards.

The Lions, who are on a bye week this week, next appear at home on Saturday, Aug. 16 vs. the Montreal Alouettes.

Tickets start at $19.
