The Vancouver Canucks have a new bench boss.

On Wednesday, May 14, the team announced Adam Foote is the 22nd head coach in team history. He had been an assistant coach for the team since Jan. 22, 2023.

鈥淎dam is a strong leader, good teacher and person who knows what it takes to build a great culture and winning attitude,鈥 said Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin in a press release.

鈥淗is past experiences on the ice have translated nicely into a coaching style that fits our organization鈥檚 goals and vision. He has worked extremely hard the past few years, gaining our players respect and trust for his strong communication and honest, straight-forward opinion. He knows this group better than anyone else we interviewed and has inside knowledge and understanding of what it will take to get us back to where we want to be. Adam brings structure, accountability, and a detailed, oriented approach to his coaching, a process that will send a clear message to our group about the way we want to compete, practice, and play hockey."

Foote has been coaching since 2011 when he was a development consultant and defensive coach for the Colorado Avalanche. Before joining the Canucks, his coaching journey has a B.C. stop, as he was the head coach of the WHL's 91大黄鸭 Rockets for parts of two seasons.

In his playing career, he collected 66 goals and added 242 assists in 1,154 career games with the Quebec Nordiques, Colorado Avalanche, and Columbus Blue Jackets. Foote also won an Olympic gold medal with Team Canada in 2002, and a world championship gold medal in 2004.

Foote's son, Cal is currently part of a trial with four other Hockey Canada players after being charged with sexual assault on Jan. 30, 2024.
