91´ó»ÆÑ¼ skaters heat up SummerSkate competition

The 91´ó»ÆÑ¼ Skating Club saw 10 of its 22 skaters collect medals at the meet

Nearly half (10) of the 22 91´ó»ÆÑ¼ Skating Club athletes who competed at the SummerSkate competition medalled, including Abbey McTavish (centre), who won gold.

The 91´ó»ÆÑ¼ Skating Club (KSC) showcased their depth, collecting 10 medals at the annual B.C/ Yukon SummerSkate competition.

Hosted in Burnaby on Aug. 16-17, the KSC had 22 skaters compete, including Abbey McTavish, who struck gold in group two of the STAR women category.

91´ó»ÆÑ¼'s Kara Lu also nabbed a gold, having skated to a personal best score of 19.09 points to win group one of STAR 5 women under-13.

Olivia Waters, age 12, performed admirably against several competitors older than her, winning silver in group 3 of the Juvenile women under-14 category, while also winning silver in the STAR 7 category. Rebekah Vader took home bronze in that same competition.

Arya Hight won silver in the group one Juvenile women under-14 event, with a personal best score of 26.74.

Calissa Adlem and Gabrielle Jugnauth finished second and third, respectively in the junior women's event, while Abegail Redekopp won bronze in the Gold Women's division. 

In the STAR Four Girls categoy, Samantha Smith rounded out the medal haul for the KSC, winning bronze.

After a brief break, KSC skaters will be back on the ice on Monday, Aug. 25, in preparation for their fall/winter season.
