PHOTOS: Push, pull, drag: Sicamous gets Fire Fit at 2nd annual challenge

Public joined Sicamous Fire Rescue in circuit training competition

There's fit, and then there's Fire Fit, which participants in Sicamous proved they are.

At the 2nd Annual Fire FIt Challenge on Tuesday evening, Aug. 6, the public was invited to participate in a SIcamous FIre Rescue (SFR) training exercise that keeps them in (fire) fighting form.

The circuit, which the crew does a few times a year, was done in a relay format for this event, included a Hose Drag that was powered up with water, a Hose Coupling speed test, Weighted Pull, Sledge Hammer swing times eight, and Cone Sprint with a Dummy Drag.

SFR challenge master Andrei Dumitrache provided a run through demonstration of the circuit – fully kitted out in gear, including oxygen – during which he beat his previous time and completed the course in a new record of 57.6 seconds.

With the bar newly raised, the group divided into three teams of four to tackle the course in two heats. All three teams had consistently improved times, but in the end the Weak Links proved to be not so weak, with a total time of 90.75 seconds, followed by the Skull Skaters in second with 103.97, and the Knuckle Draggers at 121. 56.

The teams celebrated with medals, gag gifts and bragging rights for next year's Fire Fit Challenge.
