Sporadic rain on a sunny day didn't keep about 50 younglings from coming out to Williamson Lake Sunday, June 15, to cast a rod with their families at an annual Father's Day fish.

Hosted by the Revelstoke Rod & Gun (R&G) Club, the free event has run for a quarter century and gives fathers and their children the chance to bond over angling in a safe space for B.C.'s Family Fishing Weekend.

Supporting the fun all these years has been the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC (FFSBC), which stocks Williamson Lake with 500 fish every spring. This year marked the 26th annual Family Fishing Weekend, according to FFSBC.

Revelstoke R&G Club organizers shared that this year's turnout was substantially up from June 2024 by about 20 children, with the club supplying rods, bait and tackle while running a barbecue.

One avid angler made his parents proud by reeling in about half a dozen catches, according to Revelstoke R&G Club's Peter Bernacki.

A fresh new addition to the event this year was Williamson Lake's new swim dock, where fishers were allowed to cast their lines from Sunday. The City of Revelstoke is now looking at spring or summer 2026 for the arrival and installation of a dedicated community fishing dock, Bernacki said.
