Vernon athletes Aili Marshall (women's soccer, from left), Kacey Miller, and Nolan WIlson (men's softball) return from the Canada Summer Games in Newfoundland with no medals, but a boatload full of memories.

Her team only allowed one goal against in the round-robin.

But that goal, scored by Quebec in the 10th minute of their 1-0 win over Team B.C., was enough to keep Vernon's Aili Marshall and her provincial teammates from reaching the medal round in women's soccer at the 2025 Canada Summer Games in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Marshall and Team B.C. went 1-1 in their three-team preliminary round, which started with an 8-0 thumping of the Northwest Territories.

Only the top team from each of the four, three-team pools, advanced to the semifinals.

The loss to Quebec was the only blemish on The Rock for Team B.C.

In the placing qualifications, B.C. blanked New Brunswick 5-0, and finished the tournament with a 4-1 win over Prince Edward Island to end up in fifth place overall.

Marshall played almost every minute of every game for B.C. She was substituted in the second half of the Game 1 victory over the Northwest Territories. She did not record a goal in the tournament.

Ontario defeated Quebec 1-0 to win gold while Nova Scotia defeated Alberta 1-0 (4-1 on penalty kicks) for the bronze medal.

In men's softball, Vernon's Kacey Miller and Nolan Wilson settled for eighth place with Team B.C.

The team went 2-6 in the round-robin. They beat the host province 2-1 in 10 innings, and edged Manitoba 12-11. B.C. lost 4-2 to Nova Scotia, 2-0 to New Brunswick, 8-1 against Alberta, 12-1 to Saskatchewan, fell 8-1 to Quebec, and closed the preliminary round with a 15-0 loss to Ontario.

Alberta defeated B.C. 13-12 in the game for seventh and eighth place.

Miller appeared in six games for B.C., and went 2-16 at the plate. Wilson played in five games but went hitless in eight at-bats.

Ontario defeated Quebec 4-2 to win gold, while Nova Scotia won the bronze.

Team B.C. finished third in the medal standings with 116 total medals – 43 gold, 32 silver, and 41 bronze. Ontario was atop the table with 175 medals (63G, 57S, 55B), just two more than Quebec (173 – 63G, 58S, 52B).

Vernon's Michelle Webster won gold in the first week of the Games as an assistant coach with Team B.C.'s victorious women's softball squad.

The next Canada Summer Games will be in 2027 in Quebec.
