Vernon swim club soaks up new times, record

Vernon Kokanee Swim Club places third out of 18 at North and interior Swimming Championships

Terrific results from the 2025 BC Summer North and Interior Division Swimming Championships could bode well for the Vernon Kokanee Swim Club (VKSC).

Next up on the slate are the Provincial Championships, July 17-20, in Vancouver. Vernon will be sending nine swimmers to represent the team.

The Kokanee was among 18 teams competing June 27-29 at the North and Interior finals, with the local club enjoying a successful meet with 10 new provincial qualifying times. Vernon placed third overall within the division out of the 18 squads.

Provincial qualification times came from Teo Bos in the 50-metre breaststroke; Kayne Clark in the 50m and 100m breaststroke; Alex Puchkov in the 200m breaststroke; Kubrick Reed in the 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke; Julia Russell in the 200m butterfly; and Kaeden Uesson in the 100m and 200m butterfly, and 200m backstroke.

As a team, the VKSC swimmers set personal best times in 133 races.

Recording 100 per cent best times were Bos, Al Chen, Clark, Dean Goldie Aurora Hamilton, Mackenzie Jardie, Puchkov, Reed, Kathryn Reynolds, Kilian Russell, and Severin Williamson.

The Kokanee set a new club record in the 400m Free Mixed Relay in the 14 and under division with a time of four minutes 19.25 seconds. Racing the event was Puchkov, Norah McIntyre, Goldie and Uesson.

Top drops in time came from Goldie in the 1,500m freestyle with a drop of -78.88 seconds, and the 400m individual medley with a drop of -40.23 seconds.

Other very notable drops came in the following races:

• Teo Bos, -26.49 400m free;

• Aurora Hamilton, -11.52, 200 back/ -15.24 200m breast;

• Mackenzie Jardine, -12.71, 200m IM; -10.01 200m breast;

• Norah McIntyre, -10.86, 400m free;

• Kathryn Reynolds, -13.72, 100m back;

• Julia Russell, -13.38, 200m fly;

• Severin Williamson, -13.63, 200m free.

Podium finishes:

Teo Bos: Gold medal in the 50m breaststroke; silver medal in the 200m freestyle, 50m and 100m butterfly, and a bronze medal in the 200m and 400m Individual Medley and 100 m freestyle.

Kayne Clark: Gold medal in the 50m breaststroke; silver medal in the 100m breaststroke; Aurora Hamilton: bronze medal in the 200m breaststroke

Niya Kashuba: Silver medal in the 50m butterfly;

Alex Puchkov: Silver medal in the 200m breaststroke;

Kubrick Reed: Gold medal in the 50m backstroke.

Julia Russell: Gold medal in the 100m and 200 m butterfly; silver medal in the 50m backstroke; 

Kaeden Uesson: Silver medal in the 200m butterfly and 200m backstroke;

Boys 13-14 200m free relay: Bronze medal for Korbin Wade, Kilian Russell, Kayne Clark and Kaeden Uesson.

Boys 13-14 200m Medley relay: Bronze medal for Kaeden Uesson, Kayne Clark, Alex Puchkov and Korbin Wade.
