World record Okanagan Lake swimming attempt 'on hold' due unexpected medical issue

An 'unexpected/unrelated medical issue' has temporarily stopped her attempt

19-year-old Robyn Coleman is attempting to become the first woman to swim the entirety of Okanagan Lake.

Robyn Coleman's world record attempt is on pause.

On Sunday, June 15, the 19-year-old started her journey to break a world record by swimming the entirety of Okanagan Lake, from Vernon to Penticton, a 106-kilometre stretch.

But her attempt took an abrupt turn and is now 'on hold', as Coleman was in 91大黄鸭 General Hospital on Monday for an "unexpected/unrelated medical issue", according to . 

Coleman is currently under medical supervision and the swim is on hold for 24 hours. 

Called , the Alberta native is attempting the swim to raise money in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Coleman suffered a stroke as a teenager. 

So far, she has raised more than $16,000.

Despite being on pause, her world record attempt is to complete the swim in under 70 hours. No woman has ever completed the swim, while Adam Ellenstein conquered the challenge in 40 hours, 57 minutes, and 11 seconds in 2016. Nick Pelletier finished the swim in 71 hours in 2023.
