A rope-off contest between Jen Naylor, left, and Jim Beckner ends in a tie at the R.J. Haney Heritage Village Cowboy Campfire Show on July 4.

The wild west came to Salmon Arm Friday night, with locals being right at home on the range.

R.J. Haney Heritage Village & Museum hosted a Cowboy Campfire Show on July 4, with the evening filled with authentic western culture, music and storytelling under the open sky.

Cowpoke guests were treated to a pre-show roping demonstration featuring some lively sawhorse livestock, followed by live music from well known cowboy Rob Dinwoodie and his three piece band Open Range. Special guest Ken Mather, cowboy poet and historian, then took the stage with rich stories, poetry and the legacy of the western frontier.
