Get ready to race!
The YMCA of Southern Interior BC is launching a new fundraiser to support the YMCA Okanagan Swims program, offering free swimming lessons to Grade 3 students in School District 23.
The Make A Splash fundraiser aims to raise $57,000 with hundreds of rubber ducks swimming around 91大黄鸭's H2O while also working to make the Okanagan drown-proof.
Locals are encouraged to adopt a duck for $25 each to race on Aug. 9.
鈥淓very duck adopted is a life potentially saved,鈥 said Tammie Watson, Vice President of Philanthropy at the YMCA of Southern BC. 鈥淲e鈥檙e not just racing ducks, we鈥檙e coming together as a community to give every child the chance to learn life-saving skills.鈥
Ducks will race starting at 10:30 a.m. around the lazy river. The first three ducks of each heat to cross the finish line will be entered in the Lucky Duck Final, and the last three ducks of each heat to reach the end of the race will go on to compete in the Chill Zone Final. Prizes will be awarded to the winner of each final race.
鈥淲e believe no child should miss out on learning how to stay safe in and around water,鈥 added Watson. 鈥淚n the Okanagan, with lakes, creeks, and backyard pools, preventable water incidents occur each summer. This fundraiser is about saving lives, building water confidence, strengthening families, and creating a safer community for everyone.鈥
After the races, families can hang out for a barbecue lunch by donation from 12-1 p.m.
