Armstrong spreads FireSmart info with free barbecue

The community is invited to Memorial Park Sunday, July 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for free food, games, music, and information on the FireSmart wildfire prevention program

It's a special event involving FireSmart and City of Armstrong residents are invited.

The city will host a community FireSmart Barbecue from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, July 20, at Memorial Park. The free event is packed with food, fun, and important information about wildfire prevention.

"FireSmart is about living with and proactively managing wildfire risks in your area and on your property," said the city on a specifically designed FireSmart page on its website, .

"Building wildfire resilience is a shared responsibility across B.C."

The community barbecue will include free hot dogs and refreshments; a Kids’ Zone with face painting, puzzles, games, prizes, temporary tattoos and more; a live DJ to keep the good vibes going with music; FireSmart information booth, where you can chat with Armstrong's FireSmart coordinator; and you can take the Make Water Work pledge with Armstrong Mayor Joe Cramer and members of council.

This event is supported by volunteers and equipment from the Armstrong Lions Club, Armstrong Pathfinders and Rangers, and the Armstrong/Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce.

The FireSmart program, guided by seven key disciplines, applies to all levels — from individual homeowners to broader landscape and land management efforts. Research has consistently shown that FireSmart principles effectively reduce risks to life and property, even in extreme wildfire conditions.

Supported by extensive field studies, laboratory research, and wildfire modelling, FireSmart methods help minimize the risk of losses, even under the most severe fire scenarios.
