Lieutenant Governor Judith Guichon is making her way around B.C., visiting 150 schools and giving speeches as part of Canada鈥檚 150th celebration.

鈥淚 think it鈥檚 a great opportunity to talk to the students and talk to them about Canada and what it means to be Canadian. I hope to make them aware and how important it is to become involved in the community at all levels (of government,)鈥 said Guichon.

The Lieutenant Governor visited Chief Tomat Elementary, 脡cole KLO Middle and Raymer Elementary, Friday, Jan. 20.

Each school held an assembly as Guichon spoke with students about Canada鈥檚 constitutional monarchy, encouraged their participation in the nation鈥檚 democracy and shared ideas about a healthy and sustainable future for all.

鈥淰ery few people have any idea what the role of the Lieutenant Governor and the Governor General in our democracy is and our constitutional monarchy and how it works,鈥 she said.

KLO Middle was the sixth鈥檚 school on the governor鈥檚 list.

The journey will end in June and she plans to visit three or four schools in each community, she said.
