The Village of Chase will be losing an access point later this summer with the announced closure of the Coburn Street and Highway 1 intersection.
In a July 15 media release, the village announced the permanent closure of the intersection in relation to the highway four-laning project. Contractor CIF Construction Ltd., however, said that approximately three weeks after its full closure to all traffic, it will be accessible by emergency vehicles.
鈥淐IF will be installing an emergency access gate on Coburn, as well as barriers on the shoulder and centre of the highway,鈥 CIF project manager Scott Fomenoff told the Observer. "Once the gate is installed, only emergency vehicles will be able to open it.鈥
The road was previously closed from April 21 to May 12 for milling, paving and concrete barrier work, but this time it will remain permanent. The Ministry of Transportation and Transit hadn't responded to the reason for the closure prior to publication.
