A Sicamous hockey player hopes to cross an item off her puck-et list as she vies to be named 2025 Youth Athlete of the Year with Sports Illustrated.

Though relatively new to hockey, 13-year-old Quinn Carson is already making name for herself on the ice, prompting her stepdad Robbie Barrett and mom Kelly Reynolds to enter her in the prestigious contest.

Athletes entered in the online contest need votes to get to the next level, with the current round trying to narrow it down to the Top 20, closing on Aug. 7, then runs until October to get the Top 10, then Top 5. The final winner will receive $25,000, and appear in an ad for NFL player Russell Wilson's company 3BRAND in Sports Illustrated Magazine.

鈥淪he was pretty excited about when myself and her mom put her in it,鈥 Barrett said of Quinn's reaction. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a daily vote. I know it鈥檚 a lot for people, and I just really hope that they鈥檒l keep it up for her.鈥

While the young athlete also plays softball, volleyball and competes in school track and field in which she won gold, silver and bronze medals in different events at the B.C. Interior Elementary School Championships in 2023, hockey is her main focus.

Going into her fourth year on the ice, Quinn was on three teams last year; the Sicamous U13 mixed team, played up a division on the U15 girls team in Salmon Arm, and was an alternate player for the U15 Novas, which is the zone team for the females.

鈥淗er sport of choice is definitely hockey. She just fell in love with it... took to it really quick and became one of the top players on her team in her second year," Barrett said. "She was born to be an athlete that kid."

Quinn's long-term goal is to play for the University of Minnesota, then move on to the Professional Women's Hockey League there.

鈥淪he spends hours daily outside shooting pucks," Barrett added of her dedication. "Like she鈥檚 putting the work in.鈥

Voting can be done online at , with Quinn currently fourth in her group.
