UBC Okanagan coach, athletics director named to collegiate hall of fame

The CCAA Hall of Fame recognizes individuals whose contributions have left a lasting impact on collegiate sport in Canada

UBC Okanagan women's volleyball coach Steve Manuel, and former athletics director Rob Johnson have been inducted into the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Hall of Fame.

Current UBC Okanagan Heat women鈥檚 volleyball head coach Steve Manuel and former athletics director Rob Johnson will be inducted into the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Hall of Fame on June 17, in 91大黄鸭.

A CCAA media release notes that Manuel acknowledged for his decade-long run with Okanagan College (OC) and the Okanagan Lakers, will be honoured in the coach category. Johnson, who led athletics at both OC and UBC Okanagan (UBCO), will be inducted as a builder for his lasting contributions to the growth of collegiate sport across Canada.

Manuel began coaching in 2001 and built one of the most dominant women鈥檚 volleyball programs in the country. Over ten seasons, his teams posted a 132-38 league record, reached the national championships five times, and won back-to-back CCAA titles in 2008-09 and 2009-10.

鈥淪teve鈥檚 legacy of success and his contributions to collegiate athletics make him an exemplary candidate for the Hall of Fame,鈥 said Jennifer Naiman, athletics, recreation and student life coordinator at OC. 鈥淗is dedication and leadership fostered excellence among his athletes and elevated the entire program.鈥

His coaching resume includes seven conference podium finishes and multiple Coach of the Year honours.

Johnson joined the CCAA in 1995 and served as vice president of finance from 1996 to 2000, helping guide the organization through critical years of development.

He served as athletics director at both OC and UBCO.

鈥淩ob demonstrated exceptional talent, dedication, and leadership throughout his career,鈥 said Naiman. 鈥淗is consistent excellence and commitment to attention to detail have set a high standard and inspired countless others.鈥

The recognizes individuals whose contributions have left a lasting impact on collegiate sport in Canada.
