The large Grey trophy eluded him during his professional football days.
But Todd Wiseman was able to corral a smaller, yet equally significant grey-ish trophy as an amateur golfer.
Wiseman, who played eight years in the Canadian Football League with the B.C. Lions, Toronto Argonauts, and Hamilton Tiger Cats, never won the Grey Cup, but he won the B.C. Senior Men's (55 and up) Golf Championship's trophy on the final day of the 54-hole event Aug. 7 at the Pitt Meadows Golf Club.
He shot even-par 72 to finish the tournament at two-under-par, one shot better than Tom Kenny of Coquitlam.
鈥淚 was fortunate to get drafted by the Lions in 鈥�87 and in 鈥�88 we made it to the Grey Cup in Ottawa and lost 22-21,鈥� said Wiseman, a native of Kamloops who recently moved to Port Moody, to BC Golf after the tourney. 鈥淗eartbreak, but right down to the end, and you take from those moments in life. It鈥檚 funny when things come full circle. Today, I鈥檓 one-up here playing the final hole and I have to execute.鈥�
Wiseman took a one-shot lead when he parred the 17th, while Kenny failed to get it up and down for par after leaving his approach short. Wiseman pretty much sealed the deal when he stuck his approach shot on the 18th to about eight feet above the hole.
Top Okanagan finisher was Norm Bradley of 91大黄鸭, who was tied for eighth place with a total 3-over-par score of 219. Bradley won the B.C. Super Senior (65 and over) title, played with the B.C. Senior Men's event.
Three Vernon golfers were well back in the field of the Senior Men's event.
Andrew Tkachuk had rounds of 80-76-85 to finish at 241. Mike Otter shot 85-85-76 for a 246 total, and Brett Kury finished at 248 after rounds of 87-84-77.
Two Vernon golfers cracked the top-15 in the Super Seniors field.
Jim Ryan finished tied seventh overall at 11-over, after rounds of 75-77-75 for a 227 total. Ted Bilton was tied for 11th at 232, after rounds of 77-77-79.
Mark Longworth from Vernon shot 76-82-87 to end up at 245.
Bradley scored a two-shot win over Frank McKenzie of Victoria. Finishing third was Vancouver's Doug Roxburgh, a 13-time B.C. Men's and four-time Canadian Men's Amateur champion. He also won a third straight B.C. Senior Men's championship at the Vernon Golf and Country Club in 2019.
