Cloverdale鈥檚 Parker Holbeche-Boyer decided to set up a free lemonade stand in front of his house yesterday afternoon, to do something good for his neighbourhood.
He made some pink lemonade, created signs to advertise his free product, and set up cups on his Spider-Man card table on the front walk of his Clayton home.
鈥淔ree lemonade!鈥� he shouted to passing cars. 鈥淕et your free lemonade!鈥�
鈥淗e gave it his all,鈥� said Parker鈥檚 mom, Jessica Boyer. 鈥淸He] stood there waving his sign for over two hours, offering 鈥� and perhaps scaring 鈥� passing walkers and motorists free lemonade.鈥�
But, despite the seven-year-old鈥檚 best advertising efforts, he didn鈥檛 get a lot of takers.
鈥淚 made a few calls. Posted a few Facebook posts, and let me just say that the outpouring of community support was incredible,鈥� said Boyer. 鈥淎t one point I had to clear my throat to stop the tears of joy.鈥�
鈥淩ecently Clayton has been in the news for some weird and scary things. Bullets, drugs, guns, crime scene tape and more sirens than you鈥檇 hope to hear in this neighbourhood. But [yesterday] there wasn鈥檛 anything like that,鈥� she said. 鈥淲e thought we would spread some cheer and wow. Just wow!鈥�

One of the phone calls that Boyer made was to Cloverdale鈥檚 RCMP detachment, and the Cloverdale fire hall. Boyer and Parker wanted to offer them 鈥渟omething happy when often their days are only filled with people in distress,鈥� she said.
Cloverdale鈥檚 emergency responders heard the call 鈥� and showed up in style. A fire engine, as well as several police vehicles, swung by Parker鈥檚 stand to have a refreshing glass of lemonade on Thursday (July 18).
鈥淚t was incredible to see the outpouring of support from everyone,鈥� said Boyer. 鈥淚t was wonderful.鈥�
Although the lemonade was offered for free, many donations were made. Parker鈥檚 tip cup filled up with $65, which he plans to give to the .
