Residents' complaints about the conditions of some roads in Upper Fintry are going to the Minister of Transportation and Transit (MoTT).

The Regional District Central Okanagan (RDCO) has received numerous complaints from homeowners on Fairbridge and Gray streets, Dunwaters Drive, Muir Road, and Kelly Place, that excessive dust from unpaved roads is a health issue.

鈥淭here was maybe a dozen, two dozen homes in that area right up until about 2020-2021, and now I understand there's over 130 people up there,鈥 Electoral Area Director Wayne Carson noted at the June 19 RDCO Board meeting. 鈥淭hese are nice homes, they're on good lots, but they're just buried in dust from the roads.鈥

Carson said attempts at dust suppression have not been successful.

鈥淣ow they鈥檙e just breathing chemicals with the dust.鈥

He added that the goal is to have the road paved.

鈥淩eally hoping that we can get a letter to the minister, maybe help open up some eyes in Victoria that this is needed,鈥 Carson said. 鈥淭his area is also part of the Vernon ministry of transportation office, which makes it even a little bit tougher to try and deal with the situation in there鈥攎ake sure that they're talking to the right office.鈥

The board voted unanimously to send a letter to the MoTT outlining resident鈥檚 concerns.
